How AI Has Impacted My Business (And My Perspective)

Over the past three years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has completely changed the content and communications industry.

It has changed my business and my life in ways I never expected.

Back in 2023, AI seemed to explode overnight. Everyone wanted to try it. Businesses were curious about the cost-saving nature. People were excited about how quickly it could generate captions, blogs, emails and more.

At first, I tried to stay optimistic.

But then a shift started. I lost a client. Then another.

It was terrifying watching something I had worked so hard to build begin slipping away. I struggled to understand why so many businesses were willing to hand over their stories, brand voice and communications to technology instead of a real human being.

I was on an emotional rollercoaster.

I started adding the following disclosure on my writing “This post and all content from Kim Coyle Content Creation is fully human created”.

It felt odd and upsetting, but I also felt it was necessary. I wanted to be clear I was still the one writing.

My client roster continued to dwindle, due to AI. It became clear that my business, as it existed in earlier days, was no longer sustainable on its own.

That realization was incredibly difficult to accept.

I knew I needed stability. I started the job hunt knowing very well the job market was extremely competitive. To be fully transparent it was frustrating and depressing to submit what seemed like endless applications and either not hear anything OR when I did have interviews that seemed to go extremely well, there was no offer.

In the fall of 2024, I accepted a position with Chocolate Sensations, a family-owned business that was expanding by opening a store in Milton. It was a completely new chapter for me, and one I was grateful for.

Even while working full-time, I continued supporting a few long-time clients during evenings and weekends because I still loved the work and the relationships I had built.

Then in late 2025, life threw another unexpected challenge my way, and I unfortunately had to leave that position due to health reasons.

Now here we are, well into 2026.

I have started putting myself back out there more. I joined a networking group through a client referral, have been connecting with people, attending events and rebuilding my business, one step at a time.

Something interesting has started happening.

More people are beginning to realize that while AI can certainly be a helpful tool, it cannot replace human storytelling, strategy, lived experience and authentic connection.

Do I use AI? Yes.

Do I still sound like me? Absolutely.

I use AI in parts of my workflow. It can help generate ideas, organize thoughts and improve efficiency.

I do not rely on it to tell someone’s story.

Great writing is not just about putting words on a page.

It’s about understanding emotion, nuance, personality, tone and connection. It’s about making sure your content sounds like you.

That is something AI simply cannot fully replicate.

Writing services I offer to my clients have also changed and evolved with the adoption of AI. Previously, a large portion of my work involved creating content from scratch from topic generation through to a completed written piece. Now, A big part of what I help clients with is refining their copy to ensure it sounds like them, while also adding in their stories to make their content more human, authentic and relatable to their audiences.

Another important piece many people overlook is fact-checking. While AI can provide information quickly, it is not always accurate. Careful review, critical thinking and human oversight still matter tremendously.

Technology is evolving, and I understand why people are curious about AI. I am too.

But when it comes to your business communications, your story and your brand voice, there is still great value in working with a professional who understands how to communicate authentically and strategically.

I find it interesting that it is very rare for someone to disclose they used AI in the creation of their content. I have heard from other entrepreneurs and businesses it is almost expected that some form of AI was part of the process. My, oh my how things have changed.

Thank you once again for being part of my journey. Whether you’re a current or past client, colleague, supporter or someone quietly cheering me on from afar, your encouragement truly means more than you know. 💛
